Masculinity of Women Characters in Disney Selected Stories
This research discussed masculinity characteristics in two movie Raya
and the last Dragon and Frozen II, masculinity is a form of masculinitty
construction towards men. Masculinitas is formed by culture and is not born
naturally in men. In today’s developments, roles or genders are being
exchanged, such as women being masculinity and being feminity. Currently, in
literary works themselves, the theme of gender exchange is quite often raised,
one of which is women’s masculinity. The creation of these literary works is to
provide implied messages and meanings to a wide audience. Reseachers used
by Sandra L Bem theory of masculinity and the characterizations by Boggs and
Petrie. This research used qualitative descriptive methods to reveal data. The
findings show that the characteristics of masculinity in the two movie are acts
as a leader, aggressive, ambitious assertive, athletic, competitive, defends on
own belief, independent, masculine, and willing to take a risks. Therefore, both
movie display the characteristics of masculinity from external acrion, internal
action, dialogue, and appreance. In addtion, the results of this research are that
the characters Raya and Elsa as women in this movie have succeeded in
changing the stereotype of women in society, addressing the paradigm that
women are unable to dominate society.
