Anxiety in English Language Learning faced by students of SMAN 19 GOWA
The purpose of this research aimed to find out the anxiety level between students’
class MIPA 1 and MIPA 2 and to identify the significant factors anxiety in learning
English at MIPA 1 and MIPA 2 in SMAN 19 GOWA. Then, population of this research
was 60 students’ and samples are taken by purposive sampling technique. The
data were collected by using the Foreign Language Classroom Anxiety Scale
(FLCAS) questionnaire consists of 25 questions develop by Horwitz (1986). Data
were analyzed using questionnaire and interview. Based on the research findings,
the researcher found that the majority of the students were in mildly anxious level
in learning English with 60 respondents from MIPA 1 and MIPA 2 class in SMAN
19 GOWA. The dominant factor of anxiety in learning English was Nervous, Heart
beats fast, Panic and afraid, Lack of self-confidence, not fluent in English, Teacher
speaks so quickly, Lack of vocabulary, embarrassed to be volunteer, and Paucity
of time.
