Empowering Learners Through AI Base ELSA Application to Improve Pronunciation Accuracy toward The First Year Students of English and Literature Department of UIN Alauddin Makassar
ELSA is an AI-based English app that is widely used by people
who want to learn English. The ELSA application can be done alone
using AI-based users to get feedback like talking to someone. The aim
of this research is to see how ELSA assist students in getting accuracy
pronunciation. This research uses quantitative as the method of
research. Where this method has several steps: pretest, posttest and
questionnaire. Purposive-sampling method was used to select sample
of research, thus Students from English Language and Literature class
of 1AG1 were selected. For the first step, a pre-test was carried out
using a text. The intervention was carried out for five weeks. After the
intervention period, a post-test was conducted using the same test as
the other pre-tests to check their improvement. After carrying out the
post-test, a questionnaire was carried out using Google form.
Participants' pre-test, post-test and questionnaire data were compared
and analyzed in SPSS. The results of this research showed that listening
skills from the students has improved, which is also an important skill
to improve the other skills. The second result is that participants
benefited from using the ELSA app, such as: new vocabulary, listening,
and reading. Additionally, this research has limitations to discuss,
which provide opportunities for future research who have the same
interest with the research. it can be concluded that the ELSA Speak
application base AI can have an Improvement on the English
pronunciation skills of first year students in English Language and
Literature Department.
