Language Function in the Selected American Foods Advertisement
This research is aimed at identifying the types of language functions in the
selected American foods Advertisement and to know the use of language functions
in selected American foods advertisement. This research uses Halliday’s theory of
language functions which there are 7 types of language functions such as
instrumental function, personal function, heuristic function, imaginative function,
regulatory function, interactional function and representational function (1973).
This research uses descriptive qualitative method. This research uses the recording
application and note-taking instrument. The research data are taken from 15
Instagram posts comprising 5 from McD, 5 from KFC, and 5 from BK. The result
of this research shows 22 language functions that are classified into 3 data in
imaginative function, 2 data in personal function, 3 data in instrumental function, 6
data in regulatory function, 4 data in interactional function, 1 data in heuristic
function, and 3 data in representational function.
