Conflict Toward Character of the Movie "The School for Good and Evil” (2022)
The research aims to analyze the conflict of the main character and the
effect of this conflict on the main character. This research uses a structuralism
approach with the Movie “The School for Good and Evil” (2022) as the data
source and analyzed using qualitative descriptive methods In the obtained
data, this research was analyzed using William Kenney's (1966) theory about
conflict and using Tomkim (1911-1991) theory about the effect of conflict.
This research shows that there are types of conflict in the character Sophie
namely internal conflict and external conflict found in each part of the plot. In
the exposition section, there is an internal conflict, namely feeling guilty and
in the inciting incident section there is another internal conflict, namely
disappointment. Meanwhile, Sophie's external conflict with other characters is
in the inciting incident and rising incident sections, namely oppression,
fighting, and misunderstanding. Sophie's conflict with nature and society also
occurs in the rising incident section and the school war of evil and good is the
peak of the conflict in the climax section. So it can be said that the conflict faced
by Sophie was influenced by the internal conflict between Sophie and herself
who could not accept that her desire to go to a good school did not come true.
Therefore, this conflict developed into an internal conflict and an external
conflict which in the end the conflict affected Sophie.
