Representative Speech Act of Speakers In Selective Talk Show of Steve Harvey

This research aimed to find out the types of representative speech acts in
the selective talk show of Steve Harvey. This research applied a descriptive
qualitative method. The researcher used note-taking as an instrument to find out
data about representative speech acts in the selective talk show of Steve Harvey.
The object of this research is the Steve Harvey talk show. The data were collected
by watching the talk show and reading the script to get information about the
speech act used by all the speakers. The data of this research are all utterances
spoken by both the host and the guests in the Steve Harvey talk show which
contain representative speech acts. The data were classified according to the type
of representative speech acts according to Searle’s theory. Based on the data, The
results showed that there were six types of representative speech acts, as much
as 46 data findings were found by the researcher, and some of the data findings
occur more then one types of representative speech act, there are 12 combination
of stating and informing, there is 1 combination of informing and reporting, there
is 1 combination of stating and claiming, there is 1 combination of stating,
informing, and reporting, there are 6 data of stating, there are 11 data of
informing, there are 4 data of claiming, there is 1 data of complaining, there is 1
data of suggesting, there are 8 data of reporting
