The Representation of Paternal Involvement in Society in Emma Straub's This Time Tomorrow
Fatherless is one of the social phenomena which have negative impacts for
children. To reduce this problem, the society must apply paternal involvement.
This study aimed to see how Emma Straub views about the representations of
father in paternal involvement in society through the object of research. The
object of this research is the novel This Time Tomorrow by Emma Straub. This
study used the theory of genetic structuralism by Lucien Goldman and the theory
of Paternal Involvement in analysing the data. This research was a descriptive-
qualitative study by using note-taking instruments in data collection. The results
showed that father in paternal involvement are represented by Emma Straub in
several roles; father interact with his child, father is responsible for ensure a
decent life for his child, father support child‟s emotional development also father
is easy to access by his child. To start with father, interact with child are
represented by chatting, eating and reading book together. Furthermore, father
responsibilities in ensure a decent life represented by earn money for living and
providing for proper education for child. Moreover, child‟s emotional
development represented by trust the child, teach about life, close with child‟s
friends, affection and monitor. In addition, father is easy to access represented by
father is easy to found or contact.
