This research explores the negative aspects of social life depicted in Jordan
Belfort's novel “The Wolf of Wall Street”. This research explores the various
elements that make up social life and the unique ways individuals approach them.
Social life cannot be separated from negative aspects such as drugs, prostitution,
and free sex, which are examined in the context of American society, as described
in the novel. The research questions center on examining how the main characters
reflect the negative aspects of social life. The purpose of this study is to describe
and analyze the negative aspects depicted in Jordan Belfort's character, thereby
contributing to a deeper understanding of social life. Data were analized using
descriptive qualitative method and using sociology literature theory from Wallek
and Warren. The results of this research reveal that The main character not only
consumes drugs but also becomes addicted to them due to his work environment.
His peers and boss influence him to adopt this lifestyle, using drugs to alleviate
stress and cope with life's challenges. Additionally, drugs become a remedy for
his back pain, providing instant relief. Moreover, the main character engages in
prostitution as well, following his boss's advice, as it is deemed part of Wall
Street's culture. During business meetings, he and his friend participate in such
activities. The important lesson from the novel is that environmental influences
are very important in a person's life, bad influences will bring bad things and good
influences will bring good things.
