Analysis of Slang Meaning Equivalence from English to Indonesia in Deadpool (2018) Movie Script
This research analyzes the slang words meaning equivalence from English to
Indonesian within the script of the Deadpool (2018) movie. The primary
objective is to identify the types of slang based on Allan and Burridge's
classification and to analyze the meaning equivalence by using Nida and
Taber's translation theories. The research employs a descriptive qualitative
method, focusing on sentences and utterances that contain slang from the
movie script. The analysis is formulated around two main aspects: first, the
categorization of slang types, and second, the assessment of meaning
equivalence, which encompasses both formal and dynamic equivalence in the
translation process. Based on the analysis, the researcher found 5 types of
slang words in movie scripts, categorized into 4 fresh and creative, 2 imitative,
4 clipping, 11 flippant, and 2 acronyms reflecting the characters' informal
everyday dialogue. Then, the analysis revealed a balance of dynamic and
formal equivalence in translating the slang for a seamless adaptation of the
original meaning to the target language, as seen in the stylistic choices of the
translations.
