Character Transformation: Narrative Structure in War Storm by Victoria Aveyard (2018)
This study examines the character transformation in the novel War Storm by
Victoria Aveyard using Tzvetan Todorov narrative structure theory through five
main stages: equilibrium, disruption, recognition of disruption, attempt to
repair the disruption, and new equilibrium. Utilizing a qualitative method, the
findings reveal that Mare transformation is shaped by internal and external
conflicts including self-doubt, betrayal, and political struggles. The narrative
demonstrates Mare journey from uncertainty and emotional turmoil to
maturity, resilience, and leadership. Through strategic alliances, military tactics,
and personal growth, Mare evolves into a figure of strength and hope reflecting
the complexities of human experience and the interplay between individual and
collective struggles. This study contributes to understanding character
transformation in literary works, highlighting the importance of narrative
structure in shaping emotional depth and moral growth.
