Religious Messages in Harris Jung’s Selected Song (Paul Ricoeur’s Hermeneutic Theory)

This research presents two research question, First, What is the
interpretation of the song lyrics based on Paul Ricoeur’s Hermeneutic Theory?
The second one, What are the religious messages contain in the song?. This
research uses Paul Ricoeur's hermeneutic theory and uses qualitative method
with descriptive analysis to analyze the lyrics in the song as the main data in
this research. This research discusses “Religious Messages In Harris Jung's
Selected Song (Hermeneutic Theory by Paul Ricoeur)”. The purpose of this
research is to find out the interpretation of the song lyrics based on Paul
Ricoeur's hermeneutic theory, and to find out the religious messages
contained in the song lyrics. The results of this study shows that: first, Harris
Jung's song can be interpreted using Paul Ricoeur's hermeneutics theory
related to the context of the author's experience, historical context, horizon of
understanding and narrative identity. The songwriters of I Promise, Love Who
You Are and Hourriyah interpret their views on the realities of life. Second,
found some religious messages in the song related to the relationship to
parents, human relations with God, and human relations with oneself. The
implication of this study can be narrated that the substance of Paul Ricoeur's
hermeneutics research is a process of understanding the text involving
historical context, the author's experience, the horizon of understanding
between the author and the reader and the narrative identity that the author
builds in the text. One of the important implications of Ricoeur's hermeneutical
theory in this study is about religious messages. By using hermeneutics theory,
the interpretation of song lyrics is not only limited to understanding the text
but also on the emotional context, spiritual values, moral values, historical
context and social conditions conveyed by the author as a starting point for the
interpretation process to the audience.
