The Function Of Actions In Victoria Aveyard’s “Glass Sword”
Of the total seven spheres of action and thirty-one narrative functions
that have been determined by Propp (1968), the researcher identify five
spheres of action and eighteen narrative functions contained in the story
of the novel Glass Sword. Of the total 31 functions in the novel, there are 18
functions included in it such as interdiction, violation, reconnaissance,
delivery, villainy, mediation, departure, the first function of the donor, the
hero reaction, struggle, branding, liquidation, return, pursuit, rescue,
unrecognized arrival, difficulties task, and solution. The researcher also
found five spheres of action among the seven spheres of action, such as
villain, hero, donor, helper, and dispatcher. This is due to the fact that this
novel is a continuation of the story that has begun in the previous novel
entitled "Red Queen". Some story functions that can be introduced in the
first novel and also the next novel "King's Cage." In addition, without the
60
