The Use of Jargon from Online Game Mobile Legends among Teenagers at Bulukumba Regency (A Sociolinguistics Study)
This study explains the use of jargon by teenagers in Bulukumba Regency with
the aim of identifying jargon and its function in the online game "Mobile Legends"
used by teenagers when they play the game. This study uses a qualitative descriptive
method for data collection, using recording sheets and interviews as instruments to
obtain valid data. The results of this study indicate that teenagers who play "Mobile
Legends" have identified 18 jargons, which include the terms and phrases they use,
those are Dark System, Carry, Montage, Clear Minions, Mokad, Looting, Ez deck,
WP, By One, Sultan, Gacha Team, Cut Lane, Baceup, Solo Lord, GG, NF, NT, and
NR. Researchers also identified the function of jargon for efficient communication
and encouraging solidarity in groups, some jargon used by teenagers, such as
reflecting their profession or activities, and what they observe on social media,
which influences the formation of jargon. Teenagers who play games only use
jargon when it relates to real-world situations or what they see and experience
through the games they play. As a result, teens who use jargon in games often follow
their real-life context.
