The growth of the main charachter “Wednesday” Addams in the “Wednesday” series
Fulfillment of needs is a process in which a person tries to fulfill the
various needs or desires that they have, whether physical, psychological, or
emotional. This study aims to analyze the character development of Wednesday
Addams in the television series "Wednesday" (2022) using Abraham Maslow's
Hierarchy of Needs theory. The series chronicles the journey of Wednesday
Addams, a teenager with a unique and dark personality, as she explores her
identity and social relationships in a specialized boarding school. The research
employs a qualitative method with a content analysis approach. Data were
collected through direct observation of episodes from the "Wednesday" series
and analyzed based on the five levels of needs in Maslow's theory: physiological, safety, love and belonging, esteem, and self-actualization. The findings indicate
that the character Wednesday undergoes significant development at each level
of needs, from seeking safety in a new environment to achieving self- actualization through the discovery of her true identity and acceptance of her
uniqueness. "Wednesday" series successfully portrays a complex character
transformation, which can be thoroughly explained through Maslow's Hierarchy
of Needs. However, The hierarchy of needs theory is somewhat contradictory to
the Wednesday series, especially in terms ofthe level of self-actualization.
