Historical in The “Animal Farm” by George Orwell (2022)
This research begins by defining historical memory as a concept that
encompasses individual experiences and past events, this research specifically
investigates how Orwell's negative life experiences are portrayed in “Animal
Farm,” specifically through the lens of Halbwach in his book Collective Memory.
By analyzing Orwell's background, including his experiences during the Spanish
Civil War, this research reveals how negative life experience Orwell manifest in
the allegorical representation of oppression and political corruption in the story.
Using a qualitative descriptive methodology, the findings show that “Animal
Farm” do not only recounted events but also serves as a critical commentary on
totalitarianism and the manipulation of power, reflecting Orwell's own struggles
with trauma and his quest for justice and equality. In conclusion, this research
contributes to understanding how personal history shapes literary works,
particularly in Orwell's critique of the political system through the allegory of
“Animal Farm,” thus highlighting the lasting impact of historical memory on
literature.
