“Borrowing Analysis from English to Indonesian Translation in the Novel China Rich Girlfriend”
This study aims to analyze the types of borrowing used in translating the
novel China Rich Girlfriend into Kekasih Kaya Raya. This study used a qualitative
method with a text analysis approach to identify and evaluate the types of
borrowing used by the translator in conveying meaning from the source text to the
target text. The data in this study were taken from the first 145 pages of the novel.
The findings of the study indicate that the translator uses two types of borrowing
based on the theory from Nida and Taber, namely pure borrowing and naturalized
borrowing. The borrowing technique is used to maintain the original meaning and
also to adjust to the language of the readers. After analyzing the data, the researcher
concluded that the total borrowing found was 182 data, 84 pure borrowing data and
98 naturalized borrowing data. There are 21 ways in which the translator uses the
borrowing technique in translating the novel China Rich Girlfriend.
