ASSERTIVE SPEECH ACT IN THE DEBATE OF DR. ZAKIR NAIK AND NON-MUSLIM ENGINEERS
In this research, the researcher focuses on assertive speech acts in the
Debate Video of Dr. Zakir Naik and Intellegent Non-Muslim Engineers.
Assertive speech acts help speakers convey information clearly and
convincingly, as well as confirm their beliefs or views about a subject. This
enables effective communication and influences the listener's perception of
the information conveyed. This research aims to analyze the types and
function of assertive speech acts in the Debate Video of Dr. Zakir Naik and
Intellegent Non-Muslim Engineers using Searle’s theory. In this research,
qualitative method was used to analyze the data. The results of this study
show that there are several types of assertive speech acts, including:
asserting, reporting, explaining, boasting, complaining, denying. And its
functions include: providing information or facts, expressing opinion or
belief, clarifying or explaining something, influencing or confincing the
listener, and conveying conclusion.
