Analysis Paralanguage Features in Podcast “Zach Sang Show”
This research examines the use of paralanguage by Zach Sang as a host
in the podcast “Zach Sang Show” with guest star Agnez Mo. Paralanguage
is defined as a form of nonverbal communication through the voice, which
reflects how something is said, not what is said. The analysis was
conducted using a qualitative descriptive method that refers to the
Paralanguage theory by Poyatos (2002), and supported by Barnard's
theory (2022) for tempo measurement. The aim of this research is to find
out how paralanguage features are used in the “Zach Sang Show” podcast.
The results show that the most dominant paralanguage feature used by
Zach Sang and Agnez Mo in the “Zach Sang Show” podcast is fast tempo
which has several functions or meanings, such as to show mastery of the
situation, willingness, cheerfulness, and impatience in discussing a topic.
In addition, other features such as drawling, jerky rhythm, smooth rhythm,
and clipping were also found to enrich the verbal interaction. The findings
emphasize that paralanguage features play an important role in conveying
emotions, reinforcing messages, and keeping interactions interesting,
especially in modern media such as podcasts.
