The Impact of English Song toward Pronunciation of EFL Learners in English and Literature Department UIN Alauddin Makassar
This research explores the impact of English songs on the pronunciation
skills of EFL learners in the English and Literature Department at UIN Alauddin
Makassar. Using a descriptive quantitative method, the study involved 28
purposively selected third-semester students who had consistently used
English songs as a learning tool for at least one year. Guided by theoretical
perspectives from Kelly (2000) and Djiwandono (2008), the research
hypothesized that exposure to rhythm, melody, and natural intonation
patterns through songs could enhance articulation, fluency, and pronunciation
awareness. The study focused on two main aspects: first, evaluating students'
pronunciation levels before and after using English songs, which showed a
significant improvement in posttest scores; second, analyzing students'
perceptions, which revealed that English songs not only served as
pronunciation models but also increased motivation and confidence in
learning English. The results affirm the effectiveness of integrating song-based
activities into pronunciation practice, supporting the idea that songs can be a
dynamic and impactful medium in EFL learning.
