functions of slang used in American political issues on social media X. The

a descriptive qualitative approach. The data were collected from user comments
related to political topics posted on Social Media X. The researcher found 28 slang
terms, categorized into five types: fresh and creative (7), compounding (4),
imitative (5), acronym (9), and clipping (3). The functions of slang identified in
this study include the pursuit of self-identity (11), expression of emotive feelings
(16), and achieving politeness (4). The findings suggest that slang is used not only
as a linguistic trend but also as a tool for self-expression, emotional
