Morphological Acquisition of English as a Foreigen Language of a 6-7 Years Old Children
This research explores the morphological acquisition of English as a foreign
language by an 8-year-old child. The research aims to find out english vocabulary
that the child acquire and analyze the morphological process in 8 years old child
who lives in non-english speaking community. This research used qualitative
method in analyzing how an 8 years old child named Alesha learns English. The
findings showed that Alesha's vocabulary covered many categories, such as body
parts, objects, food, family, and transportation. She could form simple sentences
and understand basic morphological structures like singular and plural forms.
However, she struggled with more complex words and compound words, which
is typical for her age. The study supports the input theory by Lieven, which
suggests that children learn language from their environment. The results also
highlight the importance of a supportive linguistic environment for children's
language development.
