Semiotic Analysis Of Signs In The Film “Nobody” Using Charles Peirce’s Theory
This study analyzes visual signs in the film Nobody (2021) using
Charles Sanders Peirce’s semiotic theory. The research aims to identify,
classify, and interpret the visual signs that appear throughout the film by
applying Peirce’s categories of icon, index, and symbol, along with his
triadic model of representamen, object, and interpretant. This study
adopts a descriptive qualitative method, with data collected through
detailed film observation and visual documentation. The analysis focuses
exclusively on non-verbal visual signs, excluding verbal dialogue and
narrative structure. The findings reveal that signs such as family
photographs, police sirens, physical injuries, and public warnings are
used to communicate character identity, emotional tension, and narrative
progression. This research contributes to the application of Peirce’s
semiotic theory in film studies, offering a deeper understanding of how
visual signs construct meaning in cinematic storytelling.
