the objective of this research is to get description of how hesitation is produced by the students in learning english conversation at Al Ikhlas Islamic Boarding School in Polman Regency. the researcher found that there are many utterances the students' hesitation in learning english conversation. from those utterances, there are 5 types of hesitations; there are false start the speaker uses it because the speaker has difficulty in completing a particular syntatic structure, restart the speaker uses it for preparing the next utterance, pauses the speaker uses it because he comes up for air or taking breath and word expanding the speaker uses it because the speaker uses it because the speaker finds difficulty in giving the next utterance to the listener.
