SKRIPSI

Power in the novel "Thank you for smoking" by Christopher Buckley (a sociological approach)

M. Nur Ilham Achdar HT. - Personal Name;

the writer found that the academy through Nick Taylor gains power and finally influences society with the following: language, mass media, and bribe. the writer divided the society's response into two; pro and contra tobacco. consumerism and libertarianism cover those pro tobacco while anti-consumerism and environmentalism cover those contra tobacco. power is highly relevant with the language, better known as rhetoric, and the ever-growing the mass media. this leads to cultural hegemony as the neo colonialism and imperialism in globalization era.
