An analysis of language functions in the novel "a portrait of the artist as a young man" by James Joyce

The study found seven kinds of language functions by Roman Jacobson used in this analysis. The function mostly used in the conversations of the novel was referential function, and it occured in the dialogues that a singgle utterance had two functions of language.
