Error analysis and its significance in the second language learning
Some of the new theoretical and methodological concepts which have been discussed in TESOL literature over the past several years are linguistic analysis, contrastive analysis and error analysis.rnLinguistic analysis is the work done by linguist in providing a descriptive grammar of language. Contrastive analysis refers to analysis of two languages covers phonology, morphology and syntax. For example, in morphology, we can contrast between the noun formation in English and French. It can be used to predict the errors that speakers of the fist language will make in learning the second, and also can observe errors by starting with classroom data and using the differences between the two linguistic systems to explain the errors. And the last to be taken into account is error analysis which can be defined as a technique for identifying, classifying, and systematically interpreting the unacceptable forms produced by linguistics Besides, MeKeating states that error analysis involves collecting errors, study’1g them, classifying them in various ways and suggesting possible causes.rnError analysis as one of the new theoretical and methodologicalrnconcepts cannot be ignored in language learning process. It has an important role for the teachers and the students and also for the language researchers. That is why I would like to discuss error analysis in the second language learning.
