The negotiation of contested ideologies in Crazy Rich Asian Novel by Kevin Kwan (Hegemony Approach by Antonio Gramsci)

The result of research revealed the kind of ideologies and the process negotiation of dominant ideology. There are two ideologies found in the novel, those are (1) Traditional Chinese and (2) Chinese American. Those ideologies represented by the main character of the novel. The Process of the negotiation dominant ideologies through several steps. Those are the (1) subalternization process does by the Traditional Chinese (Eleanor Young and Shang Su Yi), (2) the organic intellectual create relation with subaltern (Rachel Chu and Nicholas Young having relationship), and (3) the subaltern follows organic intellectual (Nicholas Young follow and choose Rachel Chu).
This research also revealed that Nicholas Young as the main character who has ambiguity towards his identity in the novel, symbolized the ambiguity of Singapore identity. It represents how its country stand as the super wealth country in Asean whether stand to China or America.
