Data collected in this research is in form of words, phrases, clauses and sentences that underwent translation shift. The research is done through note taking technique in order to find and collect some data.
The result of the analysis shows that translator applied all types of shift as procedure of making equivalence in translating the comic from English to Indonesian which are level shift and category shift. Furthermore, category shift is divided into 4 parts namely structure shift, unit shift, class shift and intra-system shift. In total, there are 783 cases of shift found. In this research, among 2 types of shift, there are l14 cases of level shift and 669 cases of category shift. In category shift, structure shift is the most frequently shift applied by translator which contains 325 cases of total shifts found. Unit shift is the second dominant shift to occur, there are 210 cases of total shift. Then, intra-system shift, there are 94 cases of shift. The last, class shift, is the least found in the translation, there are 40 cases. Systematic difference in language is unavoidable as that languages all over the world come from different language family which significantly influenced systematic variation including in English and Indonesia. This difference causes the translator to experience a systematic shift in the translation process due to the necessities of making translation equivalence. From the explanations, it can conclude that shift are used to make appropriate, to get clearer and natural translation through addition, subtraction and alteration techniques.
