The role of translation technique in talkshow subtitles on youtube
This study is focused on the translation technigues in the Talkshow subtitles on Youtube. The objective of this study is to describe the kinds of translation technigues are applied in the talk show subtitles on YouTube. This study uses combination method to explain the data found in the talkshow subtitles. The data are analyzed based on Molina and Albir (2002) theory about kinds of translation technigues. The result of this study shows that there are 15 technigues found the talkshow subtitle among the 18 technigues, they are (1) Adaptation occurs 3 times and represents 0.90Yo. (2) Amplification occurs 22 times and represents 6.60Y4. (3) Borrowing occurs 90 times and represents 24.026. (4) Calgue occurs 5 times and represents 1.506. (5) Compensation occurs 26 times and represents 7.806. (6) Description occurs 8 times and represents 2.43”o. (7) Estabilished Eguavalence occurs 8 times and represents 2.40”6. (8) Generalization occurs 4 times and represents 1.206. (9) Linguistic Amplification occurs 20 times and represents 6.0076. (10) Linguistic Compression occurs 6 times and represents 1.804. (11) Literal Translation occurs 118 times and represents 35.43Y9. (12) Modulation occurs 5 times and represents 1.5056. (13) Reduction occurs 7 times and represents 2.10”6. (14) Subtitution occurs 16 times and represents 4.75Yo. (15) Variation occurs 6 times and represents 1.856. The most dominant technigue is literal translation while the least used technigue is adaptation.
