Persuasive strategis used in Denzel washington motivational speech
This study discusses the persuasive strategies used by Denzel Washington's motivational speech. This research aimed to identify the kinds of persuasive strategies used by Denzel Washington and to analyze how the persuasive strategies used in his motivational speech. Then, the data were analyzed using descriptive gualitative method. The source of the data is the transcripts of video from Denzel Washington motivational speech which is taken from the official YouTube account of AlexKaltsMotivation. The instrument of the study is the researcher herself to get the data. The data is in the form of utterances which contains persuasive strategies. The result of this study shows that Denzel Washington used three kinds of persuasive strategies which are ethos (3 times), pathos (17 times), and logos (6). How Denzel Washington using persuasive strategies are different. When Denzel Washington used ethos, he showed his reputation, credibility, image, character, and previous record to get trust from the audiences. When he used pathos, he used emotional appeal to control the emotion of the audiences. Then, when he used logos, he persuade the audiences by stating logical reasons, a specific fact and truth as a supporting evidence.
