Double colonialism tow ards subaltern women as represented in arundhati roy's the god of small things
This study focuses on the representation of subaltern women in Arundhati Roy's The God of Small Things. The objective of the study is to find out the representation of subaltern women in The God of Small Things novel by Arundhati Roy. This study is a library study and it used gualitative method. To collect the data, the instruments used were the researcher as the main instrument and notes taken from acguired data of the object which then analyzed with subalternity concept of Gayatri Spivak by tracing the author”s representation on the women characters of the novel. The study found that Arundhati Roy represents women characters who live under the same discourse of patriarchy and postcolonialism which subjugate them with layered Oppression wether racially and gender based discrimination. However, Roy tends to also give them diverse construction of voices and choices despite muteness that they finally meet. |
