Pragmatic Approach of Discourse Analysis Toward “Social Issues on Meme in Reddit Website

This research discussed about the intention of the meme on the website reddit based on the social issue. The method that used is Mixed Methods Research integrates both Oualitative and Ouantitative Research with Discourse Analysis approach. The researcher collected the data from the memes that was published on website reddit. The intention of the memes concludes based on the researcher analysis with pragmatic approach by Deborah (1994), the analysis of the meme's comments and also by using Illocutionary Acts by Yule. From 20 memes that was observed, most of them are representatives and expressives and only a few of them are commissives and directives. The intention also supported with the comments of the meme which explained the viewer perspective about the topic that meme talking about.
