Directive Speech Act Used by Lecturers of English and Literature Department of UIN Alauddin Makassar.

This research discussed about Directive Speech Act Used by Lecturers which aimed to analyze the types of directive speech acts expressed by the lecturers of English and Literature Department of UIN Alauddin Makassar by using Yule's theory. This research used descriptive gualitative method in revealed the data. The researcher revealed that there were four types of directive speech acts that they used while teaching and learning process namely: command, suggestion, invitation and warning. Meanwhile, reguesting were not expressed at all by lecturers. The function of language in directive speech act that found in this research is the directive function and referential function. The researcher concluded that the lecturers used directive speech acts in order to make the students easy to understand and prevent misunderstanding among them.
