Intimate language style used by the characters in The Hate U Give movie by George Tilmann Jr

The main objective of this research discussed the use of intimate style by the characters in the hate u give the movie. This research aims to find the use of intimate style language using Martin Joss (1976) theory and also to find the influence of the characters in using intimate language style using Holmes (1992) theory. In analyzing the data, this research is primarily using descriptive analysis method. As the result, this research showed that there are five characteristic of intimate style by Martin Joss theory such as, Address, Extraction, Close friend, Family relationship, and jargon. In this research, there were 29 data that found of intimate language style used by the characters of the hate u give movie. There are six (6) utterances with Address characteristic, six (6) utterances with extraction characteristic, six (6) utterances with family relationship characteristic, six (6) utterances with close friend characteristic and five (S5) utterances of Jargon Characteristic. Moreover, there are four factors by Holmes theory that influenced the characters in using intimate style, namely participant, topic, setting and function.
