Liminality in Hiilsingland society by Ari Aster”s Midsommar

This study aims to find the symbol of ritual related to liminality and analyze the meaning of ritual symbols that appear through three dimensions of meaning including exegesis, operational and positional. This study focuses on the symbol of ritual in Ari Aster's Midsommar. This study uses descriptive gualitative methods With the theory of liminality and Victor Turner's symbol theory as the theoretical framework. The data for this study were collected by capturing the picture from film and the scripts of Ari Aster's Midsommar. The result of the analysis are five liminality and six symbols of ritual represented liminality. The results of the analysis show that symbols in rituals can explain the condition of liminality, the function of the ritual, and explain the relationship between symbol, ritual, and liminality.
