Motivated Forgetting on The Main Character of Kazuo Ishiguro's “The Buried Giant

This research aims to focus on the analysis character in The Buried Giant novel by Kazuo Ishiguro. There are two objectives of the research, those are (1) to find out how motivated forgetting depicted on the main character, (2) to find how does superego control character's behavior. This research used gualitative method specifically descriptive gualitative method. In collecting the data, the researcher relied on herself as the main instrument of the data and analyze the data using psychoanalysis exactly personality theory by Sigmund Freud in terms the topics classified into motivated forgetting and superego control. The result of the research depicted motivated forgetting on the main character exactiy on the Axl character. This motivated forgetting depicted the main character in the novel by applying personality theory. Both ego and superego influenced the motivated forgetting on the main character. For the second research focus, the result of the research found three characters controlled by superego: (1) Sir Gawain character, (2) Wistan character and (3) Father Jonus character.
