Phonological Interference Produced by Buginese Students at English and Literature Department
This research discussed about the kind of phonological interference and the factors that occur the phonological interference on the Buginese Students at English and Literature Department. The method that was used in this research was descriptive gualitative research. The researcher collected the data with six fricative consonants (f, v, 0, 6, f, 3) by recording and interview, then analyzed with the theory by Weinrich (1953). The object was the Buginese students of English and Literature Department. The data showed there are three kinds of phonological interference based on Crystal (2008). They are (1) sound addition, (2) sound omission, and (3) sound replacement. On the other hand, there are three sources of competence error of the Buginese Students at English and Literature Department that related to Richards”s (1974) theory, they are (1) interference Errors, (2) intra Lingual errors, (3) developmental errors. This research also found four factors that caused phonological interference of Buginese students, such as (1) Speaker's bilingualism background, (2) disloyalty to target language, (3) the limited vocabularies on the target language, and (4) prestige and style.
