Human and Nature Relationship in Mathilde May's Little Birdies Picture Book

This thesis studied about ecocriticism in Mathilde May's Little Birdie picture book as the bilmgual book. There are two aims of this research, to find out the relationship between human and nature and to know ecological wisdom portrayed in litttle birdies picture book. The method in this research used descriptive gualitative method and the object and source of the data in this thesis is the picture book “Little Birdie”. Meanwhile, Instrument of the research is using note taking. This study focuses on the relations from the characters of grandfather's family, four birdies and fishes in picture book. The researcher found three concepts in ecocriticism by Garrard (2004) theory, namely, dwelling, animals, and pollution. The ecological wisdom divided in five aspects found in the picture book, namely: respect for nature, moral responsibility for nature, cosmis solidarity, caring for nature and no harm the nature. As the result of this study, the researcher conclude that human more give power to protect or destroy nature especially in dwelling and pollution concept. Animals more give power to understand all things in animals concept. Ecoltogical wisdom by Keraf (2010) afso respresented that they have been proving an awesome chemistry each other because of the good value between human and nature.The purpose of this researcher is to give understanding to the readers whom would like to know more about ecocriticism which combine with ecological wisdom. Hopefully, this thesis can become reference to contribute in education for another research that related to ecocriticism or ecological wisdom in perspective of literary work.
