Cultural Adjustment Experienced by the Main Character in the Film Script Brooklyn 2015
This study aims to analyse the cultural adjustment process carried out by the main character in the Brooklyn film and describe the factors that affect the process of cultural adjustment. The research used gualitative method using the theory of cultural adjustment based on W-curve model by Levine and theory about factors affecting cultural adjustment based on the model of acculturation by Berry. The data taken from the Brooklyn film script by using note taking as the research instrument. The result of the research shows that the main character in the Brooklyn film did not experience all the stages in the cultural adjustment process and these stages did not occur seguentially based on Levine's theory of cultural adjustment, as for the stages she passed: culture shock, mental isolation, initial adjustment, and acceptance and integration. The researcher also found that there are 3 factors that affect the cultural adjustment process of the main character of the Brooklyn film, these factors are: cultural distance, expectations and cultural identity. These three factors have a positive impact on the cultural adjustment process carried out by the main character in the film Brooklyn.
