The Sign On The Death Relic Symbol In “Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows” ( A Semiotic Analysis )
The aims of this research are to find out the kinds and describe the function of semiotic sign used in “ Harry Potter and The Deathiy Hallow” by using semiotic analysis. This research applied Charles Sanders Pierce theory (1985) explain that, there are three types of signs which are icon, index, and symbol. This research used a gualitative approach because it intends to analyze in terms of knowing further about the meaning of the symbols in the film by using semiotic studies. Based on classification of six presupposition types according to Pierce's theory (1985), the reasearcher found 2 icon,2 indexes and 1 symbol in 3 different condition which contain kinds of semiotic sign. The conclusion of this study, the researcher would like to suggest the readers or other who are interested in analyzing signs in a film to learn more about the meaning of semiotics by Ferdinand de Saussure, Charles Sanders Pierce and other experts. The writer also suggest studying the semiotic theory of Saussure and Pierce deeply to get the clearest meaning of the signs expressed in a film. Especially the signs that are based on their object.
