Racial Discrimination in Red Tails Movie by Anthony Hemingway (2012)
In ancient times, racism was still very strong in white American society. This can be seen the film Red Tails which depicts the situation of African American airmen in 1944 who were victims of racism. This research aims to examine the racial discrimination in the film Red Tails by Anthony Hemingway and the objectives of the research are (1) to describe the types of racism in the film Red Tails by Anthony Hemingway, (2) to reveal the way of African American airmen fighting the racial problem. The data source for this research is the film Red Tails by Anthony Hemingway, which was published in 2012. The method used in this research is a gualitative method. In collecting data, the research used note taking as the instrument to get the dat a. The researcher used Carmichael and Hamilton theory of racism to analyze types of racism and the reveal of African American airmen fighting racial problem in film. The researcher found there are two types of racism in the film Red Tails. The first type is individual racism which often occurs rather than institutional racism as the second type. The researcher concluded there was African American airmen could fight racial problem and the stereotypes against them were finally dispelled.
